Q: Why is the DHC/Henrob/ Dillon torch any different than
a conventional oxyacetylene torch?
Q: Will the Henrob 2000 cut aluminum, stainless or other
non-ferrous metals?
- A: NO, but it does give a nice controlled melt especially
on thin materials .060 in. and thinner.
Q: How long do tips last?
- A: Until you damage them by sticking the tip in molten metal
or into a corner where the heat is reflected back and melts
the tip and of course by dropping it and bending the tip shut.
- The tip cleaners are smooth and dont wear the tip
orifice and there are no O rings to burn or go
bad.
- The tips are not CONSUMABLE items like plasma cutter tips.
- We have customers who have used our torches for 20 years
and have never purchased or needed replacement tips.
Q: Why does the HENROB 2000 Cut steel better than a conventional
torch?
A:
The concentrated and hotter flame transfers heat to the steel
only in the areas needed to preheat to the cutting temperature
not a larger area like a conventional torch which uses 4-6
preheat flames we only use 1 in front of the cutting tip.
Separate cutting and flame tips are used with our system.
- NOTE: Many people are under the impression that the oxygen
Blows out the molten steel.
- The cutting process is actually the steel being brought
up to the reaction temperature where the oxygen
reacts with or oxidizes the ferrite (Chemical symbol) FE
which is what rusts or oxidizes.
- The cutting process with our torch or any other is basically
accelerated oxidation accelerated by the heat from the flame
then even further accelerated by the introduction of oxygen
to the heated area.
- The difference in the Henrob 2000 is the hilighly concentrated
flame and separation of the tips.
- Without the flame after the cut this helps give a much cleaner
cut, think about it, why do you need to heat AFTER the cut?
- This also explains why the Henrob 2000 does not cut Aluminum,
Stainless or other non-ferrous metals, as there is no ferrite,
- Simply put if it wont rust it wont cut it.
- This does not apply to cast iron because of the random grain
structure.
Q: How thick can it Weld or Cut?
- A: The Henrob 2000 will effectively and cleanly cut up to
1 inch thick STEEL.
- It will weld thin metals like automotive sheet metals with
minimal warpage up to ½ inch (optional tips may be
required)
- A MIG or stick welder will do thicker 3/16 ½
materials faster, but if you only have the Henrob it will
do it just not as fast as the electric welders.
- Cast iron and cast aluminum can be welded up to one inch
thick.
Q: What metals can be welded with the Henrob 2000?
- A: The only metal we know of that can not be welded is titanium,
Im sure there are some specialty alloys that cant
be welded but, Most of the metals on cars or trucks is fair
game with the exception of HSLA steel on unibody cars which
it is not approved for (It will do it but is illegal in most
states)
Q: Do I have to get special rods from you?
- A: No, standard rods (gas, TIG or MIG) that are easily
obtained from your local welding & farm supply or auto
parts store. You may have to purchase larger quantities e.g.,
10 lbs. Or more. However we can sell you 1 lb. quantities
if you dont want to buy 10-50 lbs at the time.
- The Cast Iron rods are the only ones which some of our customers
tell us they have trouble finding, we keep those in stock
for your convenience, along with the fluxes for aluminum,
cast iron and also the special lenses, which are required
for, use with the fluxes.
Q: Does the Henrob 2000 use more gas than a standard torch?
- A: No, it actually uses 50/80% LESS gas than a conventional
or regular torch.
Q: Does the Henrob 2000 use propane?
- A: It will cut, although not as well as with acetylene.
- Welding is not possible with propane.
- If you are planning on using it with propane please call
us for alternate set up procedures.
Q: Does the Henrob 2000 require special or two stage regulators.
- A: No, Standard regulators work ok most (90+%) of the time,
we have a method to use if your oxygen gauge does not indicate
4 psi.
- A low pressure OXYGEN regulator makes it easier to set the
pressures to 4lbs.
- A 0-30 psi.gauge oxygen service only installed
on your oxygen regulator is an acceptable alternative however;
check OSHA/MSHA regulations prior to installation.
- If you have problems, we have regulators that work well
with the Henrob 2000.
- If you are only CUTTING the regulator is not as critical.
- If you are welding thin metals especially on aluminum,
stainless or chromoly the correct mix of gas becomes more
critical as the flame composition becomes more important.
- If the regulator fluctuates during the welding process you
may introduce oxygen or carbon into the weld, which can weaken,
or compromise the integrity of the weld.
- Example; The pressure setting is 4 psi. If the regulator
only fluctuates ½ -1 psi. That is 12.5-25% variance,
which would be detrimental to weld quality.
- If you are building airplanes a dual stage, low-pressure
regulator is recommended.
- If you are doing bodywork what you have will probably work
fine.
Q: Why will the Henrob 2000 weld aluminum better than a
conventional torch?
- A: The lower flame pressure is less likely to blow out the
weld puddle.
- The mixing chamber reduces the turbulence and oxygen content
(almost none) in the welding envelope at the tip of the flame
so it acts as a shielding gas.
- It does require a flux to break down the oxide layer on
the aluminum; the TIG uses a high frequency.
- The rods required are standard TIG rods; you must match
as closely as possible the alloy of the rods to the alloy
of the metal being welded.
- NOTE: A special Lens is required to remove or reduce the
prevalence of the yellow/orange flare caused by the sodium/fluoride
in the flux.
- Also due to the characteristics of our flame excessive cleaning
and flux is not necessary.
- Oily aluminum and used castings e.g. Transmission or motorcycle
cases, intake manifolds, irrigation pipe and other aluminum
that TIG/MIG welders usually have problems with the cleaning
characteristics of our flame usually does it with ease, Preheating
is required on materials thicker than 1/16 inch.
Q: Why does the Henrob 2000 weld cast iron better than a
conventional torch?
- A: The lower flame pressure is less likely to blow out the
weld puddle.
- The low turbulence and oxygen content along with the clean
burning characteristics of the flame is less likely to introduce
oxygen/carbon contamination into the weld puddle which causes
a hard weld and possible cracking.
- We use a cast iron rod NOT nickel so compatibility and machineability
issues are minimized.
- A flux and a special lens is also required.
- Preheating and Post heating is also required.
Q: How Difficult is it to learn how to use the Henrob 2000?
- A: The average person can learn the basic operational techniques
in 10-20 hours.
- Aluminum is the most difficult. (Possibly another 10-20
hours of practice)
- If you have never welded before it is easier to learn with
than if you have used a regular torch for a long time.
- If you have used a regular torch for several years keep
in mind that you must use this torch differently and that
reading and studying the book and watching the video is mandatory.
- The cutting is different like the welding so it takes some
getting used to.
- Our instructional video manual and website is very informative
to the professional and novice alike.
- We also offer excellent technical support with a toll-free
# so if you are having problems I can assist you, I dont
just sell the torch I use it so I can HELP.
Q: Is this a new technology or product?
- A: No it has been sold in the US since 1982, in Australia
and Switzerland prior to that under the DILLON name.
Q: Why have I never seen this before?
- A: This is a product that has been mainly sold at tradeshows
where it can be demonstrated. Magazine ads just havent
been cost effective, as most people dont believe that
it will do what we say it will. With the progression of the
Internet it is now possible for more people to see it, the
video has made demos on the net possible. We have sold the
torch for 9 years and find that most welding supply stores
are in the GAS business this torch uses 50/80% less gas than
a conventional torch. The tips last much longer than a plasma
cutter or a TIG welder so there is less money to be made on
consumable items.
Q: I have a Dillon torch. Is this the same?
- A: Yes, It is made almost exactly the same, so if you need
a tip for your Dillon MK-II, MK-III or MK-IV they are all
the same.
- The inventors name was Ed Dillon, Henrob corp. acquired
the rights to manufacture it. Recently, August 2002, COBRA
TORCHES, INC purchased the rights and is taking over the manufacturing
of the torch April 1, 2003 the new name is pending.
Q: I own a business and am interested in selling this product.
What do I do for dealership information?
Q: Why should I purchase the Henrob 2000 kit with bonus?
- A: Our Bonus kit has an instructional video available ONLY
from us. You can preview it on our website in our
streaming video library.
- There are other dealers who sell the torch with a PROMOTIONAL
video, which does not show you how to use the torch. Be sure
to ask before you purchase elsewhere.
- We do not recommend the purchase of the basic kit without
the video unless you are familiar with and have used the Henrob
2000.
- Technical support is included as is our technical supplement
with rod, flux & lens recommendations, which are not in
the factory manual.
Q: Can the Henrob 2000 be used on a CNC cutting table or
used to cut circles?
- A: These are areas that you must follow the flame with the
cutting attachment so the machine must be programmed to rotate
the torch to keep the tips in the proper perspective.
Q: Who uses the Henrob 2000?
- A: anyone wanting to have a reasonable method of welding
or cutting. We have many different people using our torch
from automotive, street rod, motorcycle and homebuilt aircraft
enthusiasts Farmers, Fabricators and model builders radiator
shops HVAC technicians and plumbers from novice to professional,
Some We know of are: Fatman`s fabrications, Jesse James,
Ron Fournier, Ron Covell, NY Street rods, Me, I Play with
cars, trucks and tractors. And many others that arent
listed here.
Q: I need something that you dont have on your shopping
cart, how do I get it?
- A: Just call our toll free # 1-866-775-9499 if we
dont have it we can probably get it for you.
Q: How much does the Henrob 2000 cost?
- A: Please go to our PRODUCTS
page. There are options available so the price is dependendent
on what you are going to use it for.
- You will need to get your tanks locally (we cant
ship tanks) and regulators are not included in the kit.
- Remember the kit WITHOUT the video is for people who are
familiar with THIS torch, if you havent used this
torch before GET THE VIDEO!
Q: What size hose fittings are on the Henrob 2000?
- A: B fittings are on the torch, which are standard
on most torches.
- An 11/16 wrench fits these.
- We recommend a 3/16 diameter Hose; it is helpful to reduce
the weight.
Q: Can the Henrob 2000 be used for Brazing and Soldering?
- A: Yes the cleaner burning (low O2 content) flame usually
makes brazing and soldering easier by reducing or eliminating
the need for flux,
- It doesnt scatter the flux around like a conventional
torch due to the lower flame pressure.
- The kit even comes with an air-acetylene tip, which is like
a plumbers Turbo torch, however most people prefer
the normal welding tips.
- The hotter, more concentrated flame allows faster heating
of the joint to be brazed or soldered so less heat transfers
to unwanted areas sometimes reducing or eliminating the need
for heat sink compounds or devices.
- Brass and copper (copper wire) flows well without flux.
Q: what size tanks are recommended?
- A: This is dependent on the application.
- If you already have tanks they will be fine.
- If you dont have tanks the size is dependent on the
amount of time you want between refills or the portability
requirements.
- The port-a-kit mcacetelyne 10cu.ft. & R
oxygen 20cu.ft. Will give you 1-2 hrs. Of cutting and 3-4
hrs. Welding.
- The B Acetylene 40 cu.ft. & 80-90 cu.ft
oxygen will give you 10-20 hrs. Of usage.
