To cut sheet metal (up to 1/4" thick)
for thicker material see
Thick Steel
We use 2 tips - The top tip for heating, and the bottom for
cutting - the oxygen. On the trigger, the arrow faces up.
|
 |
To cut sheet metal we use the undercutter.
For this material, push the torch away from you with a steady
hand across the surface, touching the surface with the oxygen
tip. (do not watch flame - keep your eyes on the oxygen tip)

not that much heat, less than you would
think. |
 |
Heat the material red, and pull the
trigger |
 |
and go right across, but KEEP the tip
close, much closer than your regular torch |
 |
nice cut!! - very little slag
very little warpage or distortion
a cut as nice as a plasma cutter

|
General
|
- The maximum thickness of steel (with the undercutter) you
should attempt is 1/4".
- 1/8" and thicker will require preheating.
|
|
Torch Tip
|
- attach the under cutter
- 22 to 18ga use the #1 tip on the weld point and the #0 on
the undercutter
- 16 ga to 1/8" use the #2 tip on the weld point and
the #1 on the undercutter
- 1/4" use the #2 tip on the weld point and the #1 or
the copper on the undercutter - you may have to experiment
to get the right combination.

slowly push torch across surface away from you.
