History of the DHC2000 (DILLON - HENROB - COBRA) welding & cutting torch

History of the DHC2000
(Formerly known as The Dillon, The Dillon MKIV, Henrob 2000, Cobra torch)

Dillon
In the early 1970's near Adelaide, Australia a man named Ed Dillon (a coppersmith), set out to develop a torch that would save gas, Oxygen & Acetylene to be exact, as he lived many miles from a supplier to refill his tanks.

After 11 years of development, he discovered many other things about the characteristics of the 2 gasses and found the unique mixing chamber with equal pressures and volume changed the flame composition to make it burn around 600 deg.F hotter, cleaner (less oxidation of the weld puddle, with 80% less flame pressure and of course with less gas consumption.

In the early 1980's the torch was introduced to the USA and hundreds were sold, at that time it was made in Switzerland under the Dillon name.

Dillon MKIV
It was also sold as the Dillon MKIII or MKIV The only difference was basically the handles some were smooth, some were black and some were even plastic, the torch still uses the original design today so replacement parts will fit the older torches with the only variable being some of the older torches have the European hose fittings, we have seen those sold on e-bay and there are NO ADAPTERS available to make them fit US hoses, (B Fittings) these are the standard US fitting, those are on the current torches.

There were some counterfeit torches made under the Dillon Industries name these have no serial # and are not warranted, however the parts are still interchangeable.

Henrob 2000
The Henrob Corporation started making the torch in the USA around 1985 and started calling it the Henrob 2000 to promote their name and riveting system which is used on the heat shield included in the torch kit and many OEM vehicles and is now Henrob's main business.

Cobra Torch
Cobra torches purchased the torch division in 2002 the new name was introduced in April 2005 as the DHC 2000 (Dillon, Henrob, Cobra) The company recognized the importance of the previous names and included them in the new name. Today the torch is still hand made in the USA in Rochester, MI By Cobratorches, Inc.
