People ask me about the other stuff they need to get started
welding and cutting with Henrob Torch and here is what I say:
You are going to need:
Oxygen cylinder: you can purchase the 20cf.
or R tank good for 1-4 hours of use but very portable, the 80-90
cf tank is a good size which yields about 10 -30 hours of usage,
A 120-160 cf or larger will work but is not as portable.
Acetylene cylinder: M/C or 10 cf. good for 1-4 hrs of use
or the B= 40 cf (plumbers tank) 10 -30 hrs of use or #3 =75 cf 40-60
hrs use. You may need an adapter (about $10) to connect the acetylene
tank to regulator (our Regulators are CGA-510 or POL fittings) Some
cylinders require a wrench or key to open or close, you will need
to check with your supplier of cylinder.
99% of oxygen regulators and tanks have CGA-540 fittings.
Tank Sizes: I would purchase the largest tanks you can afford
or handle as far as size goes, as the gas is more economical in
larger size tanks, also more time between refills, check with your
local supplier to see what they have available, Some places only
lease the tanks and gas prices vary widely so check around and make
sure if you purchase the tank you keep the receipt and make sure
the supplier you are purchasing from does not have "Exclusive rights
to refill the tank" if they do you can not get them filled elsewhere.
$200 - $500 FOR TANKS. Tank Rental is a good idea if you are going
to move out of town soon.
Regulators: We recommend the
COBRA Low Pressure
Regulators
$280, (The Henrob uses 4 psi. of both gasses) they are US made and
work Very well with this torch. If you have regulators try them
first, sometimes a low pressure gauge can help on the oxygen regulator
if you are using standard regulators, If the pressure fluctuates
with the standard regulator when using the smaller tips then you
will need the low pressure regulator. If doing precision welding
such as welding fuel tanks (Like Jesse James) or building aircraft
or hotrods/racecars should consider the cobra regulators,
And possibly (especially Aircraft) the 2 stage oxygen regulator
(add$100)
Hoses: any standard hose with B (11/16 wrench size or 9/16
thread size) fittings will work, however we recommend the 3/16 hose
(12.5 ft. included with regulator sets purchased from us and you
can upgrade to the 25 ft hose for $10 more.
The Henrob/DHC 2000 Torch Kit you need is dependent on the
THICKNESS of METAL to be welded The Basic Torch Kit comes with 5
(# 0,0.5,1,2,3) WELDING TIPS
There are 3
OPTIONAL welding tips available; these are 1/2 size tips
for fine tuning
The "00" or Jewelers Tip for like 24-28 gauge metals or jewelry,
The 1.5 tip for welding 3/16 metal.
The 2.5 tip for heavy castings.
Welding and Cutting Tips are usually $20 each,
Replacements are not needed. Often the tips will last for hundreds
of hours under normal conditions.
A 9th and special tip for Leading or Soldering that uses only acetylene
(like a propane torch) costs $35, this tip is included in the PRO
Master Torch kit.
There are 2 extensions available one is 6" long and straight the
other is 6" with a 135degree curve for welding on tubing or in awkward
positions like in doing exhaust systems, roll cages or in aircraft
situations they are $25 each
A CUTTING Tip made of high temperature copper is included
with each kit, both the under cutter (for sheet metal up to 1/4")
and the Over cutter (for 1/4 - 1" STEEL) and a set of guide wheels
for long cuts are included.
Other items included are Tip Cleaners, Wrench, Check Valves, Heat
Shield, Comprehensive Instruction Manual and exclusive Video & Supplement
all in a Molded PVC case with Toll Free Technical support.
If you do not know what you need we can help you decide.
YOU CAN ADD ACCESSORIES LATER, or save a few bucks buying the different
kits
Basic Torch Kit,
0.5 tip included, our most popular option..........$379
PRO Master Torch
kit, adds all 9 tips and both
extensions.....$479
The Henrob/DHC 2000 will cut STEEL but not Stainless steel, Aluminum,
or copper, It will WELD or BRAZE most metals except titanium, even
cast iron is not a problem and distortion on thin metals is less
than MIG or regular oxy-fuel torch
FLUX is required for Aluminum or Cast Iron, standard rods are needed
for the perspective metals, these are usually available locally
and a list is included.
The cast iron rods are sometimes hard to find but
we keep them in stock.
We have a starter kit of rods and flux for $20 it is an assortment
of steel, stainless steel, aluminum and cast iron with a small amount
of flux for aluminum and cast iron.
A
Special Lens is required for Aluminum/ Cast Iron these
vary from $20-$200
A standard shade #5 lens is all that is required for Steel
Welding and Cutting and most Brazing; this is included with most
GOGGLES.
We have lots of SPECIALTY eyewear. Like Magnifier lenses for those
of you needing bifocals and reading glasses.
Gloves are a good Idea but not required, a jacket is not
required unless you are very sensitive to sparks.
GOOD Ventilation is a MUST if you care about your LUNGS.
A STRIKER is needed as a butane lighter is
dangerous to use, we have flint type strikers starting at $2 up
to Piezo strikers $20
Of course if you are just getting started clamps, corner magnets,
grinders, and the related safety equipment will eventually be needed
like safety glasses, face shields for grinding, dust masks, and
hearing protection.
A Welding table with fire bricks for a welding surface is
a good project to make for practice as is a CART for your tanks/cylinders.
Each of these projects could vary from just a few bucks if made
from scrap up to a hundred or more bucks each if you get elaborate
with new materials, A hand truck from harbor freight or northern
tool or such is a good place to start for a cart.
We also have other books and videos available for continuing education
and many other welding related accessories to make your job easier
and more pleasurable.
Bottom line is for under $1000 if you have nothing and as little
as $369 if you already have a regular torch setup with tanks and
regulators.
You can get a WELDING AND CUTTING Setup for less than a MIG/Plasma
cutter that is more versatile, Portable and economical than any
of the competitive equipment named above with the weld quality of
a TIG and did I mention that it works well on dirty, rusty or corroded
metals.
We also use a gas saver device that shuts the torch off when you
hang it on the hook and has a convenient pilot light to relight
the flame exactly where you had it set for repetitive operations
such as artists, radiator or sheet metal welding like for auto body
work, This saves even more gas!
To make the torch lighter we have 3/16" hoses that are 50% lighter
than the standard 1/4" hoses.
